Are you interested in appearing on stage for this year’s Rocky Horror Picture Show, a joint production between the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center and Trident Theatre?
Fill out the form below!
This will be the 5th year consecutively that The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been on the main stage at the WYO Theater, and the show has gotten bigger every year! It’s also the 50th Anniversary of the movie being released, so this year our production is going to be bigger than ever!
Traditionally, this has been a shadow cast of lip sync artists acting out certain parts of the show while the movie plays behind them, as you see in the picture above.
Auditions will be held in the Mars Black Box Theater at the WYO on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 22 and 23rd from 7:00p to 9:00p. You do not need to attend both nights, but you are certainly welcome to do so, and it gives you more opportunity to be seen!
Rehearsals will be held Monday-Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00p at the WYO. Rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 7:00p.
The show has one performance date: Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:00p.
For auditions, you will be asked to perform something of a sexy burlesque dance to a song from the movie. You may be asked to perform other scenes from the movie as well. This year, we’re focusing specifically on the building trend of people taking lessons to be the sexiest versions of themselves they can be. The choreography will be based a lot on heels and gloves classes that people are taking all over the country. Watch the videos below as frequently as you’d like to get ready for your auditions. We won’t be doing any choreography from these videos. This will just show you some movement styles I’d like you to get used to.
Anyone age 18 and up is welcome!
DISCLAIMERS
While this is usually meant to be a good time with a burlesque feel, there are several precautions to take into account:
- This show is very sexual in nature. While it is quite campy and goofy, it also deals a lot in sexual openness and exploration.
- That being said, under the direction of Trident’s Aaron Odom, respect for the performers and their personal histories is taken into account. Aaron has attended workshops in Stage Intimacy Training, which allows for performers to take a very methodical and mechanical approach to intimate contact with others on stage, so that there is no misunderstanding about intent between performers. It’s just business.
- The production also highlights feeling absolutely comfortable in your own skin, and the intimacy training helps performers feel like the sexiest versions of themselves they can be!
- Often, characters in this production are in clothing that can be considered revealing. Certain characters do have to appear in corsets, fishnets, briefs, pantyhose and heels.
